In Some Cases…

  • A senior may not have a suitable person available to serve as an agent under a health care or durable power of attorney or someone to serve as a trustee under a revocable living trust or an irrevocable trust.  Iowa Senior Advocates may be able to serve as the fiduciary, or they may assist you in finding a suitable person.

  • A Medicaid applicant is required to surrender his or her life insurance policy, if the cash value in the policy is more than the countable asset limit allowed by the Medicaid rules.  It frequently takes four to six weeks before you will receive the refund check, which may unnecessarily delay your Medicaid benefits. In some cases, Iowa Senior Advocates may purchase your life insurance policy in an effort to assist you in qualifying for Medicaid benefits earlier.

Iowa Senior Advocates provide a wide variety of educational opportunities.
